Occasional forays into the thicket of ideas
This blog will be dedicated to looking at music, arts, and ideas that may be a bit out of the mainstream. The spirit and soul of the blog—if such a thing matters or can even be articulated—is that of Steve Lacy, the great jazz soprano saxophonist. With a voice richly steeped in the jazz tradition and yet somehow apart from it—a hedge along the path of the grassy mainstream, if you will—Lacy found his own way. He was witty, ironic, humorous, and at heart a sort of musical beat poet. He was deeply fascinated by all the arts, especially poetry, and brought them all to bear in his music. He taught me about finding one's voice, and about staying true to one's path. I hope the ideas I share from time to time here will somehow reflect his sense of the world.
